The task of installing a garage door can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing, because you are working with tension springs and electricity. There will also be decisions to make along the way as to how the installation needs to be done, and you must be able to follow the instructions provided by the door company. If at any point you do not feel confidence in your skills to do the job, stop and enlist professional help, because this is not a job for an amateur, no matter how well-intentioned you are.
Another important aspect to consider when preparing for potential garage floods is how you keep the water out. Well the answer can be as simple as placing sandbags against the garage door walls. This technique has seemingly been around forever and does the trick to keep out heavy flood waters. This technique is cheap and could potentially save you lots of time and money. Using a squeegee broom or any other smooth object to keep the water concentrated is drastically important to keeping the water away.
To save money, some people endeavor to install the new door themselves. It is a job that sounds easier than it really is, because new automatic doors can weigh as much as 1000 pounds. Since it obviously is not a job for just one person, enlist the help of a friend when the time comes to do the installation. You will be glad for the help as you work down through the various steps you need to use to ensure a successful project. In a nutshell, these steps include: 1. Start by attaching the track to the drive unit containing the motor. 2. Connect the rest of the track sections together. 3. Attach the mounting bracket at the end of the track sections. 4. Install the mounting bracket to the wooden door jamb above the door. 5. Attach the motor to the beam. 6. Do an electrical feed between the motor and the wall switch. 7. Install the safety sensors to the bottom of the tracks. 8. Hook the door up to the opener. 9. Make sure that once you have finished the procedure, you check to make sure everything is tight and aligned properly.
